Robert F. Smith, the Founder, Chairman and CEO of Vista Equity Partners recently spoke with CNBC’s David Faber at CNBC’s annual Delivering Alpha Conference, which is one of the top investor conferences of the year and brings together asset managers and leading investors to talk about the most pressing economic issues.
Smith talked about how there were considerably more investment opportunities today in the private market, compared to the public market — especially when it comes to enterprise and IT software companies — two areas where Vista focuses its investments.
“There’s actually a bit of dislocation of opportunity because 98% of enterprise software companies are private,” Smith said.
He also touched on the growing market of investors in the software space over the last 20 years, the resiliency of these types of businesses when they’re run well, and the immense opportunity for investors.
“In our sector, enterprise software, we continue to see companies with very strong revenue growth. If they’re run well, and with our work, they’re actually accelerating in this time period,” Smith said. “And the fact is that there is just a massive demand for digitization globally.”
